Happy 2011!
So La Plata has an interesting an unique tradition for New Years, even within Argentina. They construct these big paper-mache figures, fill them with firecrackers, and set them on fire while shooting off fireworks. It's kind of crazy because it seems like a lot of work and money to just light up and destroy. We got to see a couple after midnight. Here are a few pictures of the experience (before, during, and after). Above is a tribute to the Greek god, Hades. Below is a massive toad.
