Yesterday I went to Super Walmart to look for somethings for my apartment. I have a feeling it's going to take me forever to go grocery shopping at first, because I will have to spend a longer time reading all the packages. In this country, efficiency is not a strong value though.
From what I've seen so far, McDonalds, Burger King, Walmart, and even a Nike Outlet can be found in La Plata. Even though by appearances they look the same as the ones in the States, going inside demostrates some differences. The one I found most amusing was comparing the cereal and tea aisles. In the US, the cereal aisle takes up a couple rows. Here, maybe only a quarter of that space. However, the tea selection, especially when it comes to yerba mate, is comparable to a US cereal aisle! I've drunk mate every other day since I've been here so far. I imagine it may turn into an addiction that the rest of the country seems to have.
Doing laundry is also different due to a lack of dryers. We hung our clothes out on the patio in the sun.
