I've been having a hard time putting my thoughts into words. With the holidays coming and going, I feel a bit scatter-brained. Anyway I had a wonderful Thanksgiving, albeit too short. We hosted some of the family from both sides and their pets (dogs, rabbits). I am so blessed. I'm pretty sure I've said that already.
This weekend was also fantastic. My middle sister was in town and I had a ball planning every hour of the day for us. Apparently I miss having a packed schedule somewhat. We did a lot of fun things, but my favorite part was probably the glass blowing demo we happened upon on Saturday. The UW art department had an open house and a professor formed a vase out of molten glass before our eyes. It was amazing. Mesmerizing really: watching the skilled craftsman form something out of a wad of glass using fire, air, and water. As I observed, I couldn't help but compare it to an art form that I am more familiar with: pottery. In both cases, it involves careful manipulation of the material, whether through temperature changes or moisture. In both, there lies the element of uncertainty with how it will turn out exactly because so many variables are just outside of our control.
A couple weeks ago, the sermon at Blackhawk Church used the image of clay in the hands of the Potter. (Check it out: Soft Hearts from Nov 23 at http://www.blackhawkchurch.org/resources/sermon_lib.php) I'm glad that even when we are crushed, we have a master creator that molds us again. (Jeremiah 18:1-6) Then He fill us up with his Spirit and power. God is hands-on. "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Wow. I could go on and on, so I might come back to this.
