This weekend, one of the couples on my team had a healthy baby girl. I had the responsability of watching their two year old overnight. Bella (their daughter) is a great toddler, she's generally happy and fun to be around, but watching her has given me a whole new admiration for moms. Getting yourself and a young child ready and presentable by a certain time every morning is no easy feat!
Bella has a mop of curly hair, much like mine, which is difficult to tame into something that looks cute instead of the wild fro that it is especially when she can't stand still for very long.
Anyway I really had the easy job of getting her up in the morning and putting her in bed at night. She was sweet enough to say, "Hi Kelly!" when I walked into her room to get her ready for the day. So I was able to go visit the new addition to the family in the hospital. It is just astounding to me to think that the little person I held snuggled in a blanket was still inside her mom the day before. I am amazed by the delicate little features, perfect down to the miniscule eyelashes. This baby was only a handful of cells 9 months ago! It's really unbelievable. I've been reading Anne Lamott's book, Bird by Bird. This quote from her writing seems to capture life as intended,
“I think this is how we are supposed to be in the world--present and in awe.”
